Pack 408 Cub Scout Shout Out                                                            April 15, 2013
Thank you for taking the time to read this each week!

Announcements:

Encampment:
Encampment is THIS WEEKEND!!!!!  We are going to have an amazing time.  Please make sure that you have read the Participant Guide and watch your e-mail for updates/communications regarding this event.  Remember that every participant will need to turn in a BSA Health form (parts A/B only) to me this week.  I am gathering all adult cell numbers and plans for arrival/departure to help with logistics.

TECU Pinewood Derby Car Show:
The second annual TECU Pinewood Derby Car Show will be held on Saturday April 27, from 9:30am-11am and is an invitation to all youth and adults to show off all the hard work and creativity they put into making their own Pinewood Derby Cars (new or old)!  Cars will be collected and displayed for one morning, with a chance to meet other racers and maybe get some ideas for next year's race.  All cars, including Outlaw cars, are welcome.  Prizes will be awarded for: "Best of Show" and "Coolest Car" (x2) (winners announced at 11am).  Please note that this is not a racing event.  Drop off cars at TECU April 24-26 from 9am-5pm (on the 26th the latest is noon) and label the bottom of all cars with Name, Phone #, and Unit #.  There is no cost to participate, and the first 100 participants will receive a limited edition Pinewood Show Patch.

April Pack Meeting-- Theme: Inventions
Den Leaders, all advancements will be due to Jennifer McMahan (madmonky6@gmail.com) no later than Wed April 24.  We appreciate each Den having a skit or song to share with the group, and we will also have a "Den Display" table set up for Scouts to show off some of the things they have done this month.  This will be our last 'indoor' Pack meeting for the school year, as our May Pack/end of the year Picnic will be held at Sedgwick County Park on Tuesday, May 21 (more details to follow).

Pack 408 Leadership:
As many of you know, I will be starting medical school this summer.  I intend to continue with the Pack for another year, however, due to my school commitments I will only be involved in an assisting role.  After our May end of the year picnic, I will be stepping back and need someone else to take over the roles of Cubmaster and communications (these are two different roles).  If you are concerned that you 'wouldn't know what you are doing,' let me assure you that we have excellent training and resources available through the White Buffalo District and Quivira Council, plus I will gladly assist whoever steps up.  If we do not have people step up to fill these rolls at that time, unfortunately that means that the quality of program that our Pack can offer will suffer.  The truth is that we live in a time where our kids have a mind-boggling number of activities to choose from.  The reason why George and I choose to invest ourselves in Scouting is because it is a program that partners with us to help our boys to grow into the responsible, resourceful, and respectful young men that we want to see them become.  And frankly, we have a BLAST in the process.  If you are not already serving in a leadership role in our Pack, I challenge you to step up and take an active part in helping the cubs of Pack 408 become the kind of young men that we want leading our community in the years to come.

Cub Scout Summer Camp:

Congrats to all of the Scouts who signed up for summer camp!!!  Below you can find additional information on the camps.  Any balances will need to be paid to Julia no later than our end of the year picnic in May.

***All participants will need to have completed Health Forms on file (physician signature is not necessary for these camps), and completion of a swim check ahead of time for those attending camp at Kanza (Big Bear/Webelos) is STRONGLY recommended.  Our Pack will schedule a swim check date at the YMCA and we will let you know when it is.****
